HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College junior Jose Ribas (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) has been named the Conference Carolinas men's volleyball Player of the Week for the first time this season, announced league officials Tuesday.
Ribas paced Lees-McRae (11-3, 7-3 CC) to a pair of straight-set sweeps of Erskine College and Belmont Abbey College this past weekend, helping the Bobcats extend their winning streak to six matches while posting a match-high 12 kills in each contest while attacking at a .306 clip. The junior outside hitter also recorded six digs and five blocks on the week, averaging 4.6 points per set (including four kills per frame).
A native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Ribas opened the week with a match-high 12 kills against Erskine, adding two blocks and two digs in the victory. Ribas followed with a dominating performance at Belmont Abbey, posting a contest-best 12 smashes while recording four digs, three blocks, and a .360 hitting percentage. The junior currently leads the Bobcats in kills per set (2.94) while attacking at a .276 clip this season.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Friday when the Bobcats host Mount Olive College in league play at 2 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
