DUE WEST, S.C. --- Junior John Sobel turned in 13 kills, but the Lees-McRae men's volleyball team fell to Erskine, 20-25, 18-25, 12-25, in Conference Carolinas play Tuesday evening at Belk Arena in Due West, S.C.
The Flying Fleet (2-3, 1-0 CC) earned their first conference win by hitting .594 in the match while David Grandy dished out 40 assists. The Bobcats (0-5, 0-5) impressed on the offensive side with a clip of .403.
Three different LMC players earned a kill during a spurt while leading 12-11.
Despite a pair of kills from Sobel (Holbrook, N.Y.), EC rallied back to take a 22-16 advantage.
Junior Mark Shayka (Hamilton, Va.) earned consecutive kills to cut the deficit to four, 24-20.
The Flying Fleet's Neal Stanley delivered the last kill to conclude the set on the next play.
A trio of EC players contributed a kill during a 4-0 run to break a 4-all tie.
LMC hung tight and shaved the deficit to five, 22-17, after another Sobel kill.
