BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Junior Mark Shayka led all players with nine kills and Keenan Freitas had a team-high nine digs, but the Lees-McRae men's volleyball team suffered a loss to Limestone, 9-25, 23-25, 16-25, in Conference Carolinas play Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Saints (9-13, 5-11 CC) swung .309 in the match, including at a .474 clip in the first. The Bobcats (1-21, 0-14) saw Drew Blecher (York, Pa.) deliver an assist on all but two kills.
The senior finished with 22 on the day.
Sobel (Holbrook, N.Y.) delivered an ace early in the first while his team trailed, 7-6.
LC responded with an 18-3 run to close out the set while a quartet of players had at least two kills.
LMC grabbed an 8-6 lead in the second following a trio of Shayka (Hamilton, Va.) kills and one from freshman Hector Serviat (Miami, Fla.).
The set went in see-saw fashion while neither team led by more than three. The Saints took advantage of a service error followed by an attack error to get to game point, 24-20.
Coach Henry Chuang's team rallied with three consecutive points to cut the deficit to one, 24-23.
LC staved off the comeback attempt by claiming the next point.
The Saints jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead in the third.
The Bobcats used strong play from Blecher and Jack Frank (Tampa, Fla.) to shave the lead to one, 10-9.
LC clamped down and pushed the lead to seven, 20-13, before eventually claiming the set by nine.
Freitas (Hilo, Hawaii) turned in nine digs.
LMC welcomes North Greenville Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. for a CC match in Williams Gym.
