BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Mark Shayka and Hector Serviat contributed seven kills each while the Lees-McRae men's volleyball team suffered a 16-25, 13-25, 18-25, loss to Barton Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas tilt on Senior Day in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bulldogs (20-5, 14-3 CC) were powered by a 14-kill effort from Pierre Tang-Taye. The Bobcats (1-24, 0-17) saw junior Keenan Freitas (Hilo, Hawaii) produce a match-high 10 digs.
Senior Drew Blecher (York, Pa.) was honored prior to the contest and finished the match with 20 assists.
Shayka (Hamilton, Va.) produced a pair of kills early in the first while his team trailed 9-8.
BC created distance following a quartet of LMC attack errors to stretch the lead to 10, 22-12.
The Bobcats struck for two quick points after a Serviat (Miami, Fla.) kill and Shayka ace, but the Bulldogs won the following point to grab the set.
Both teams exchanged blows before consecutive aces from BC's Michael Perez made it 9-6.
The Bulldogs pulled away late and claimed the set after an LMC service error.
Serviat used a kill and ace to give LMC an 8-7 advantage in the third.
BC finished the contest on an 18-10 run.
Blecher will play his final collegiate game Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. when LMC hosts Belmont Abbey in Williams Gymnasium.
