BANNER ELK, N.C. – After going 1-1 to open its 2017 season at home last weekend, the Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team will hit the road for the first time this weekend when it travels to take on Alderson Broaddus Friday and Charleston (W.V.) Saturday. First serves for those matches are slated for 7 and 2 p.m., respectively.
Last Time Out – LMC swept Lincoln Memorial last Friday at Williams Gymnasium, but fell to Charleston (W.V.) on Saturday in five sets. The victory against the Railsplitters matched Lees-McRae's win total from last season.
Hitting the mark – In the first two matches this season, the Bobcats have shown a much-improved offense. LMC is hitting .246 as a team compared to a .105 hitting percentage last season. Sophomore Hector Serviat has led these efforts for LMC hitting .423 on 26 attempts.
Freshmen fitting in – The newcomers to the squad have been a major part of the team's success in the early going as three different freshmen lead the team in major categories. Wes Rogman paces LMC with 26 kills, Reto Pfund leads the way with 72 assists and Karl Deichmann has been Lees-McRae's top player on the block with seven total blocks.
About the Alderson Broaddus – Alderson Broaddus currently has a 0-2 record after losses to Barton and Lincoln Memorial. Individually, the Battlers are led by senior Obenda Besongngem who notched a season-high 17 kills vs. LMU. The Bobcats will look to avenge a pair of losses they suffered to the Battlers last season by scores of 3-2 and 3-0.
About Charleston (W.V.) - Charleston, meanwhile, has a record of 1-2 with that victory coming last weekend at Williams Gymnasium. Eugene Stuart and Rajahl Moxey have been the top offensive threats for the Golden Eagles so far as both players have over 160 kills on the season.
