HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team fell by a score of 3-2 (25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13) to Lincoln Memorial Friday evening in non-conference action. The loss drops LMC's record to 2-4 on the season.
Lincoln Memorial scored the first three points of the opening set, but the Bobcats came back to rally and tie the score at several different points. The Railsplitters, however, closed the set on an 8-2 run to finish off the 25-19 set victory.
LMC scored the first point of the second set and never let go of that lead en route to a 25-21 victory to even the match at one set a piece. The Bobcats put together their best hitting percentage of the match in the second attacking at a .444 clip for the stanza. Senior John Sobel was a major reason why the Bobcats hit for such a high percentage totaling seven kills on seven attempts in the frame.
Senior Mark Shayka totaled seven kills in the third set, and Sobel chipped in five more kills but it was not enough as the Railsplitters went on to regain the lead with a 25-22 victory.
Neither teams' offense were clicking in the fourth set setting marks of .125 and .097 in the frame. The Bobcats scored four of the first five points in the stanza before LMU came back to tie the score as late as 17-17. LMC went on an 8-3 run to close out the frame to force a fifth set, 25-20.
Lincoln Memorial closed out the match with its best offensive performance of the match with a hitting percentage of .316 in the fifth to help the Railsplitters to a slim 15-13 win over the Bobcats. LMC attacked at just a .048 clip in the final frame on 21 attempts.
The Bobcats will step back into conference play Wednesday when they travel to Belmont Abbey. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
