BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team fell in three sets to King (TN) University (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) Wednesday evening in Bristol, Tenn. The loss moves LMC's record to 5-10 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
Set 1: King scored seven of the first 10 points in the first frame on its way to a 25-19 victory in the opening stanza. LMC hit just .103 in the frame on 29 attempts. King's Jeff Sprayberry led the Tornado with seven kills in 13 attempts (.385) to open the match.
Set 2: LMC improved its offense greatly in the second set hitting .392 as a team. Despite the offensive improvements, the Bobcats ended up falling to King by a score of 25-22. The Tornado matched LMC's offensive efficiency and then some in the second frame hitting .500 with 13 kills in the stanza.
Set 3: The duo of Mark Shayka and Wes Rogman combined for nine kills on 15 attempts in the third with just one attack error (.533 hitting percentage). Thanks to the performances by Shayka and Rogman the Bobcats put together their second straight frame hitting over .300. Despite the efforts of Shayka, Rogman and the rest of the Bobcats, the Tornado were able to finish off the match, 25-21.
Next Up: The Bobcats will travel to Pennsylvania Friday to take on No. 8 Stanford on the campus of Penn State. First serve is set with 5 p.m.
