STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Facing its first ranked opponent of the season Friday, the Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team pushed No. 8 Stanford to four sets (25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 25-15) before falling to the Cardinal at State College, Pa. The loss dips LMC's record to 5-11 on the season.

Set 1: LMC and Stanford began the first set trading points. The score was at 10-9 Cardinal before they started to pull away from the Bobcats. Stanford went on a 15-8 run to wrap up a 25-16 set victory in the first. Lees-McRae struggled with errors in the opening stanza with 15 total miscues combined between attack, service and receive errors in the first.

Set 2: Lees-McRae responded and played better against Stanford's offense in the second frame holding it to a .176 hitting percentage in the stanza. However, the difference in the second came via the Cardinal's play defensively. Stanford notched five blocks in the second to hold serve and seal the 25-21 win in the frame.

Set 3: After totaling nearly as many attack errors as kills in the first two sets, the Bobcats rebounded to hit a match-high .429 as a team in the third. Five different Bobcats had at least one kill. The quartet of Wes Rogman, John Sobel, Mark Shayka and Karl Deichmann combined for 11 kills in 13 attempts to lead the Bobcats to a 25-22 victory.

Set 4: The defense of Stanford regained its form of the second set in the fourth totaling five blocks in the frame. The impact of the Cardinal's defense kept LMC's offense in check, which led Stanford to finish off the match with a convincing 25-15 win in the fourth.

Stat Leaders: Deichmann had the best night of any LMC offensive player totaling six kills on eight attempts with just one attack error (.625 hitting percentage). Defensively, libero Keenan Freitas posted 11 digs to pace the Bobcats. It marks the 12th time in 16 matches this season that Freitas has notched at least 10 digs.
