GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team closed out its 2017 season Tuesday with a 3-1 loss (23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-23) to Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. The loss moves LMC's record to 10-16 overall and 8-10 in conference play.
Set 1: Neither team was able to build much of a lead to open the match Tuesday as no lead grew to more than three points. Lees-McRae and Limestone battled to get the score to 23-23 at the tail end of the frame before the Bobcats scored back-to-back points to finish off the Saints in the opening stanza, 25-23.
Set 2: Both squads had issues finding their offensive grooves in the second as neither team hit over the .200 mark in the frame. Limestone, however, put together just enough offensively hitting .179 with 11 kills on 28 attempts to tie the match at one a piece with a 25-21 win over the Bobcats.
Set 3: In the third set, the Bobcats struggled in finding their mark offensively as they committed 10 attack errors in the frame. LMC, which also tallied three service errors in the third, ended up dropping the third frame to the Saints, 25-18.
Set 4: Lees-McRae came out with its most efficient offensive performance in the fourth stanza as it hit .250 as a team in 28 attempts with 12 kills. Despite the improved offensive effort from the Bobcats, Limestone edged LMC to finish off the match, 25-23.
Next Up: LMC will be making its first trip to the Conference Carolinas tournament since the 2014 season next Tuesday. Just like in its 2014 appearance, LMC has drawn No. 3 seed Mount Olive as its first round opponent. The start time for that match has not yet been announced.
