HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (25-11, 25-11, 25-18) Thursday night at No. 3 Hawaii. The loss drops LMC's record to 1-7 on the season.
Set 1 – The Rainbow Warriors scored seven of the eight points of Thursday night's contest and never looked back winning the opening stanza, 25-11. Hawaii hit a match-high .500 with 13 kills on 20 attacks to lead by as many as 14 points, which proved to be the final margin of victory.
Set 2 – After a kill by Robert Bowling to make it 4-3 Hawaii, the Rainbow Warriors appeared to turn it on after that point. Hawaii promptly went on a 6-0 run to quickly extend its lead to 10-3. The seven-point deficit was more than enough for the Rainbow Warriors as they once again downed LMC, 25-11, in the second.
Set 3 – Lees-McRae played much better in the third frame as it held a 10-8 lead on the third-ranked Rainbow Warriors. Despite the improved play by the Bobcats, Hawaii once again separated itself from LMC going on a 9-0 run to swing the momentum back the other way. The sudden swing in the stanza proved to be to the final straw for Lees-McRae as it fell, 25-18.
Stat Standouts – Bowling and Wes Rogman totaled five kills to lead LMC offensively on Thursday night. Additionally, sophomore Chris Woolslayer also set a new career-high with 13 assists on the evening.
