GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-21, 25-11, 25-23) on the road at Limestone College Thursday night in Conference Carolinas action. The loss brings LMC's record down to 2-19 overall and 0-12 in conference play on the season.
Set 1 – If you were to look at the attacking and blocking numbers for the Bobcats in the first set, you could assume that the Bobcats would come out victorious. LMC hit .350 on 20 attacks in the first and registered four blocks as well. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were derailed by eight service errors in the stanza, which allowed the Saints to win the opening set, 25-21.
Set 2 – After a service error by the Saints gave the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead, Limestone scored eight of the next nine points and never looked back winning the second set, 25-11. Unlike the first set, the Bobcats had trouble getting their offense on track as they hit match-low -.250 with 10 errors on 25 attacks.
Set 3 – It looked like Lees-McRae may pick up its first set victory over the Saints early on in the third frame. LMC started the third by scoring six of the first seven points. The Bobcats would extend their lead to as many as six points at several points after their quick start. Limestone would not go away quietly, however, as it clawed all the way back to tie the score at 23-23. Once the momentum had swung, the Saints scored back-to-back points to finish off the sweep, 25-23.
Next Up – The Bobcats will be back in action next Wednesday when they host North Greenville at Williams Gymnasium. The start time for that match is set for 7 p.m.
