BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-18, 26-24, 25-15) to Conference Carolinas leader Barton College Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium. The loss moves LMC's record on the season to 3-21 overall and 1-14 in league play.
Set 1 – Lees-McRae began the first set out-performing the Bulldogs in terms of kills, 12 to 9. Even with the Bobcats holding the edge in that category, Barton had a very efficient outing offensively hitting .412 with nine kills in 17 attacks. That efficiency was key as the Bulldogs ended up winning the first, 25-18.
Set 2 – The second frame was all about offense. Both teams hit .400 or better, and they were tied at 15 different points during the frame. LMC looked like it may even the match at a set a piece as it led the Bulldogs 23-22 and 24-23. Barton, however, tallied three kills in a row from Angelos Mandilaris to go up 2-0 on LMC, 26-24.
Set 3 – In what turned out to be the final set of Saturday's contest, Barton totaled a match-high five aces, while being aided by 12 total errors by the Bobcats to finish off the sweep, 25-15. Spencer Graf led LMC in the third with four kills in six attacks.
Stat Standouts – LMC had four players post six or more kills in the match against Barton. Graf led the way with nine kills on 15 attacks. Robert Bowling and Chris Woolslayer added seven kills each, while Ethan Gardner totaled six kills and three total blocks.
Next Up – The Bobcats will play host to Erskine next Friday in their regular season finale. The match, which was originally scheduled to be played on March 3, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. from Williams Gymnasium.
