BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team will face a stiff test to open its 2019 season Friday as the Bobcats will host No. 13 Purdue Fort Wayne at Williams Gymnasium. First serve between the Bobcats and Mastodons is set for 7 p.m.

Looking back at 2018 – Lees-McRae closed out the 2018 campaign with a 4-22 overall record and a 2-14 mark within conference play. Three of the team's four victories came at home and were against Coker, North Greenville and Erskine.

Preseason Prognostication – The Bobcats were picked to finish ninth in the annual Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches' Poll earlier this month. Senior Hector Serviat along with sophomores Robert Bowling and Ethan Gardner were selected as players to watch for Lees-McRae in 2019.

2019 Roster Update – The 2019 edition of Lees-McRae will have several new players. All told there will be five new Bobcats suiting up for the team this season including: Jeffrey Olson, Nick Cookingham, Drew Sims, Isaac Reed and Tyler Dorfman. Along with the new recruits, the Bobcats bring back six players from the 2018 team as well.

About Purdue Fort Wayne – The nationally-ranked Mastodons already have two victories to their name on the young season. Purdue Fort Wayne knocked off both NJIT and Princeton in three sets last weekend at home to account for the pair of wins. The top player for the Mastodons so far in 2019 has been Michael Keegan. After dishing out 77 assists (12.63 per set), Keegan was not only named the MIVA Co-Offensive Player of the Week but also the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week.

Series History vs. Opponent – Friday will be the third-ever meeting between Purdue Fort Wayne and Lees-McRae, but it will be the first matchup in Banner Elk. The Mastodons have won the previous two matches against the Bobcats, including a 3-0 sweep last season in Fort Wayne.
