BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team will return to action this week with a pair of non-conference matches. The Bobcats will begin the week by hosting Bluefield College Tuesday night before hitting the road for the first time in 2019 with a trip to Queens (N.C.) on Friday. Tuesday's match is slated to get underway at 6:30 p.m., while Friday's contest is set for a 7 p.m. first serve.

Last Time Out – The Bobcats dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-18) decision in their season opener last Friday to No. 13 Purdue Fort Wayne. Drew Sims led Lees-McRae in that contest with six kills and three total blocks in the contest.

New Bobcats getting acclimated – Five players made their debut in a Lees-McRae jersey Friday night against Purdue Fort Wayne. Highlighting the performances by the newcomers was Sims' nine-point outing to go along with Nick Cookingham, who led the team with 14 assists, and Isaac Reed chipped in six digs to round out the stat leaders for Lees-McRae.

About Bluefield – Tuesday's match in Banner Elk is the first of the season for the Rams. During the 2018 campaign, Bluefield posted a 7-18 record, including a 4-6 mark in conference action. A player to watch for the Rams Tuesday is Alberto Chiaparini. Chiaparini led the team in kills (264) and digs (130) last season.

About Queens – The Royals enter this week's action with a record of 0-3 on the young season. Queens has taken on George Mason, North Greenville and Purdue Wayne so far in 2019. Individually, Queens has been led so far by the duo of Nic Cavallaro and Tristan Santoyo. Cavallaro has totaled 24 kills, while Santoyo has added 20 of his own.

Series Histories vs. Opponents – Lees-McRae does not have a ton of previous history against its two opponents this week. The Bobcats won the only matchup against Bluefield College back in 2016 (3-1), but they lost both meetings against Queens last season by 3-1 and 3-0 final scores.
