CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team fell in three sets on the road at Queens University of Charlotte Friday night in non-conference action (25-20, 25-13, 25-15). The loss pushes Lees-McRae's record on the young season to 1-2.
Set 1 – Queens came out of the gates Friday on a roll. The Royals scored seven of the first eight points of the frame to put the Bobcats in an early hole. Lees-McRae was able to claw back to get within three points but that's as close as it got as the Royals went on to take the opening set, 25-20.
Set 2 – Much like it did in the first set, Queens totaled 13 kills in the second set as well. However, the Royals did it in a much more efficient manner hitting .435 with 13 kills on 23 attacks. With the Royal offense clicking so well, the Bobcats ultimately fell in the second, 25-13.
Set 3 – It looked like Lees-McRae could mount a rally against Queens in the early stages of the third set. The Bobcats scored four of the first five points to put some pressure back on the Royals. Queens quickly answered with a 15-5 run to regain the momentum and the lead on its way to closing out the match, 25-15.
Stat Standouts – For the second straight match, senior Hector Serviat led the team in kills with eight. Drew Sims was not far behind with seven kills of his own, while Ethan Gardner collected five kills on his eight attacks. Defensively, the Bobcats were paced by libero Chris Woolslayer, who finished with a team-high seven digs.
Next Up – Lees-McRae will return to action next Tuesday when it host rival King University in its first conference match of the season. First serve between the Bobcats and Tornado is set for 7 p.m.
