FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team fell in four sets (18-25, 19-25, 25-20, 24-26) on the road at Emmanuel College Friday night in Conference Carolinas action. The loss moves Lees-McRae's overall record to 1-6 and its conference record to 0-4.
Set 1 – The opening set was a close one until the later stages of the frame. After a kill from Ethan Gardner to make it 18-16 Emmanuel, the Lions rattled off a 7-2 run to close out the stanza, 25-18, to take a 1-0 lead in the contest.
Set 2 – It looked like Lees-McRae would even the match at one a piece in the second frame. The Bobcats took a 17-11 lead following an attack error by the Lions. Emmanuel, however, would go on an unbelievable 14-1 run to close out the frame, 25-19.
Set 3 - Facing a 2-0 hole, the Bobcats needed a solid effort to stay alive in Friday's contest. With the score knotted up at 19, Lees-McRae went on a 6-1 run to take the third stanza, 25-20. Drew Sims led the way for Lees-McRae with four kills on six attacks, while Hector Serviat chipped in three kills and two aces in the frame.
Set 4 – Emmanuel rebounded from losing the third set by starting well in the fourth. The Lions led at one point 14-9. Following a Bobcat timeout, the team battled back to eventually tie the score at 24. Unfortunately, the Lions notched back-to-back points to close out the match, 26-24.
Stat standouts – The duo of Sims and Serviat led the way for the Bobcats offensively Friday. Sims finished with 14 kills on 28 attacks, while Serviat added 10 kills. Defensively, Chris Woolslayer paced the team with 10 digs.
Next up – The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday afternoon with another league conference match at Erskine. First serve for that contest is set for 2 p.m.
