BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team fell in three sets (13-25, 23-25, 17-25) to Limestone College Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium. The loss pushes Lees-McRae's overall record to 1-8 and 0-6 within Conference Carolinas.
Set 1 – The opening set went to the Saints thanks to an efficient offensive attack. As a team, Limestone attacked at a .391 clip on 23 attacks to go along with three aces. Lees-McRae, meanwhile, was held to a hitting percentage of -.083 in the frame. The disparity in hitting percentages led the Saints to a convincing 25-13 victory.
Set 2 – Lees-McRae rebounded to attack at a much better rate in the second set. The Bobcats upped their hitting percentage to .323 on 31 attacks. Limestone kept pace with the Bobcats hitting .360. With both teams attacking well, the score was knotted at 16 different points. The last of these ties occurred at 22-22. Following that point, the Saints scored two of the next three to take the second frame, 25-23.
Set 3 – Limestone and Lees-McRae continued their efficient offensive attack in what proved to be the final set of the afternoon. The difference in the third proved to be Limestone's work from the service line. The Saints totaled six aces in the third set alone, which accounted for nearly all of their winning margin, 25-17.
Stat standouts – Leading the way for the Bobcats Saturday was the trio of Drew Sims, Isaac Reed and Tyler Dorfman. Sims led the team with eight kills to go along with five digs. Reed and Dorfman, meanwhile, both attacked higher than .300 for the match on 14 and 16 attacks, respectively.
Next up – Lees-McRae will be back in action next Friday when it heads to Mount Olive for another league matchup. First serve for that contest is set for 7 p.m.
