GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-17) at Limestone College Friday night in Conference Carolinas action.
Set 1 – The opening stanza of Friday's contest was a tightly contested one as neither team led by more than four points in the frame. The Bobcats put together their best offensive set of the contest in first hitting .280 with 11 kills on 25 attacks. Thanks to back-to-back kills from Chris Woolslayer, the score read 24-23 Limestone. Unfortunately, the Saints picked up the set-winning point thanks to a kill to seal the frame, 25-23.
Set 2 – Limestone and Lees-McRae played another tight set in the second. The largest lead in the stanza was once again just four points. After a 3-0 run by the Bobcats to make the score 20-19 Limestone, the Saints called a timeout to regroup. The timeout did the trick as the Saints scored four of the next five points to finish off the set, 25-21.
Set 3 – It looked like Lees-McRae would win its first set of the match in the third. The Bobcats were leading 14-11 to force Limestone to take another timeout. However, Limestone came back with a vengeance after the timeout scoring seven of the next eight points and 14 of the next 17 points to close out the set and match, 25-17.
Stat Standouts – The Bobcats were led Friday by the duo of Drew Sims and Ethan Gardner. Sims scored 13.0 points on the night thanks to seven kills, two solo blocks and four block assists. Gardner, meanwhile, also had seven kills and posted a hitting percentage of .357.
Next Up – The Bobcats will return home on Tuesday to play host to Queens University of Charlotte in their final non-conference match of the season. First serve between the Bobcats and Royals is set for 7 p.m.
