BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team pushed the University of Mount Olive Friday night at Williams Gymnasium but ultimately fell to the Trojans in four sets (25-22, 22-25, 17-25, 21-25).

Set 1 – The first set of Friday's contest proved to be an even one. UMO and Lees-McRae matched each other in nearly every statistical category. Both squads had turns in the lead in trying to gain momentum in the frame. The coveted momentum seemed to swing when the Bobcats went on a 4-1 run to turn a 17-17 tie into a 21-18 advantage. Mount Olive and Lees-McRae would exchange points in the rest of the frame, but the Bobcats would hold on for the 25-22 victory.

Set 2 – After taking the first set from Mount Olive, the Bobcats were locked in another tightly contested set in the second. The difference in the stanza proved to be Lees-McRae's miscues from the service line. The Bobcats would commit five such errors in the set. Mount Olive took advantage of these mistakes by the Bobcats to even the match at a set a piece, 25-22.

Set 3 – After being held relatively quiet in the first two sets, Mount Olive's offense suddenly found its rhythm in the third. UMO hit a match-high .464 on 28 attacks with 15 kills in the frame. The Bobcats had a solid frame attacking hitting .280 on 25 attacks. However, that disparity proved too much for Lees-McRae to overcome as the Trojans would eventually pull away, 25-17.

Set 4 – It looked at one point that the Bobcats would even Friday's match at two sets a piece. After a kill from Ethan Gardner, the Bobcats held a 10-9 lead on UMO. Mount Olive, however, would go on a 6-1 run to seize the lead for good as it went on to finish off the match with a 25-21 victory in the fourth.

Stat Standouts – Lees-McRae had a few different players have stellar nights statistically. Gardner paced these efforts with 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Hector Serviat (13 kills) and Drew Sims (11 kills) also reached double-digit kill totals on the night. Setting this trio up was Nick Cookingham, who finished the night with 39 assists, three aces and eight digs.

Next up – The Bobcats will close out their season Saturday afternoon when they play host to league leader, Barton College. First serve between the Bobcats and Bulldogs is set for 2:30 p.m.
