SPARTANBURG, SC-- Lees-McRae's Cross Country teams competed in the 23rd annual Eye Opener Invitational this past Saturday in Spartanburg, SC, and came away with a quality showing. The men finished 7th out of 22 teams.
"On the men's side, the Bobcats were led by freshman Chris Holstein (Middleburg, FL). His time of 28:05 is a personal best, and he finished 18th overall in the race, which had 172 runners competing.
Junior Josh Blanc was second on the team this week with a time of 28:53 over the five mile course.
The big jump in time came from Sebron Jessup (Westfield, NC) 30:11 to 29:36 and freshman Uriel Alberto (Winston-Salem, NC) 31:51 to 30:25.
"The guys were tired from the volume of training we have done, but they competed well and we showed signs of improvement," Coach Mac said. "I think we will see the major improvements in a couple of weeks."
The Bobcats will rest up and train for the next two weeks before they are back in action Friday Sept. 22nd at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invite.
