Spartanburg, NC--The season opening race for the cross country teams at Lees-McRae proved to be quite a success for them. The Bobcats traveled to Spartanburg, SC for the Eye Opener Cross Country Invitational at the Milliken Park Course which will also be the site for this year's Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships.
Senior Lewis Martin (pictured) made his senior debut a classic
one with a third place finish in the field of 177 as he ran a 25:50
over the 8k course (4.97 miles). Sophomore Chris Holstein ran his
fastest 8k ever in a time of 26:53 to help pace the Bobcats to a
fifth place in the team race which saw 17 colleges and universities

"We were without two key runners today, and we still competed with all we had. I am excited about what we can do this year," said Coach McPhail. "We are still a couple of good training weeks from really developing to our full potential."
Next up for the Bobcats will be their annual trip to Charleston, SC for the Citadel Invitational September 29th.
