Spartanburg, SC--Lees-McRae's men's cross country team came into the 2007 Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships under the radar, however when they left, they had served notice in leaving with the runner-up trophy for the 2nd time in three years. The Bobcats finished 15 points behind Queens University for the second place title.
"We have been working very hard this year, with incredible dedication, and we just could not put together good races until today," said Coach Craig McPhail. "We have really come together and now all of the hard work is really paying off for us. We are coming into form at the right time of year."
Leading the way was senior Lewis Martin (Charlottesville, VA) the 2003 Freshman of the Year, 2005 Runner of the Year and member of the All-Time All-CVAC team. Martin finished second in the 8k (4.97 mile) race in a time of 25:29.
Behind Martin was fellow senior Josh Blanc (Hope Mills, NC) in a season best time of 26:48 with sophomore Chris Holstein (Middleburg, FL) in 10th place. Sophomore Jon Bernal (Oakton, VA) also had his best race of the season and his career with a time of 27:05, good enough for 14th place and All-Conference honors.
Freshman Aaron Wilkins (Dobson, NC) had a personal best performance as he finished in 26th place in a time of 28:02, with junior Matt Barrett (Douglasville, GA) in 30th place and a time of 28:13. Sophomore Marty Monahan (Tryon, NC) finished in a time of 31:45.

The Bobcats will travel to Wingate University for the NCAA DII Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday, November 3rd in Wingate, NC.
