SWANNANOA, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's cross country team placed all five scoring runners in the top 50 en route to a sixth-place finish on Saturday morning, beating out three NCAA Division I schools at the UNC Asheville Cross Country Carnival.
Host UNC Asheville claimed the team win with 34 points, followed closely by Western Carolina University with 44 markers. Radford University was third with 71 points, followed by Winthrop University (136) and Wofford College (146). Lees-McRae was sixth and the top NCAA Division II school with 153 points, followed by Garnder-Webb University (192), Limestone College (205), Charleston Southern University (233), and Presbyterian College (292).
Senior Tyler Dunn (Jasper, Ga.) led the way for Lees-McRae in 22nd, finishing in 20:04 as Michael Davis (Independence, Va.) followed close behind in 24th with a time of 20:11. Freshman Anthony Carroll (Stevensville, Md.) placed 38th with a time of 20:55, as Colby Shell (Wilkesboro, N.C.) and Cody McNeely (Salisbury, N.C.) finished 42nd and 46th, respectively.
Sean Condon (Walnut Cove, N.C.) and Brenden Sherrill (Sherrils Ford, N.C.) both ran well in their second collegiate meet, turning in a pair of top-70 finishes as Pablo Gavillan (Orlando, Fla.) and Jordan Meyer (Boiling Springs, S.C.) placed 80th and 83rd, respectively.
Lees-McRae returns to the trails on Saturday, September 28 when the Bobcats travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take part in the UNC Charlotte Invitational.
