BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae cross country teams will participate in six events for the Fall 2014 slate, head coach Ley Fletcher announced Thursday.
For the second consecutive season LMC will open its season at the Buffalo Stampede (Sept. 6) in Johnson City, Tenn.; which is hosted by Milligan College.
The Bobcats will travel to Greenville, S.C. to participate in the Furman XC Classic (Sept. 13) before making the 90-minute trek to Asheville, N.C. to run at the Asheville XC Carnival (Sept. 20).
Coach Fletcher's squad will take a week off before heading to Spartanburg, S.C. at the USC Upstate Invitational (Oct. 4).
The Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championship will take place in Concord, N.C. Oct. 24, while the NCAA DII Southeast Regional will be in Montevallo, Ala. Nov. 8.
The women's team will be represented with plenty of young faces while seven student-athletes on the squad are freshmen. Sophomore Shelby Reynolds (Marshall, N.C.) is the only returner from the 2013 team.
Senior Jordan Meyer (Inman, S.C.) leads the men's team as the only upperclassman while the team has seven sophomores and four freshmen. LMC's men's squad claimed first place at the Pre-Conference Meet last October in Concord, N.C.
"I look forward to the 2014 season as both teams are very young with both squads filled with freshmen and sophomores," praised Fletcher.
"With this young squad it should be a fun year to watch them improve and adjust to college life. Both squads are young but talented and I believe the future looks bright for this group."
