LMC Cross Country Completes Challenging Task in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae cross country teams participated in the Royals XC Challenge in a highly competitive run Friday afternoon at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C.

Sophomore Jamie Colon (Acworth, Ga.) led the women's squad with a time of 21:44.0 while freshman Kristen Mitchell (Cleveland, Ga.) churned out a time of 22:02.8.

Sophomore Makayla Estep (Moravian Falls, N.C.) followed suit with a mark of 22:31.0

Coastal Carolina's Letitia Saayman claimed the individual title with a time of 17:07.4 and Davidson ran away with the team title by amassing 56 points. Queens (N.C.) led all DII teams with 202 points and sixth place finish.

On the men's side, freshman Austin Thompson (Cleveland, Ga.) continued his impressive campaign by turning in a time of 26:43.2.

Junior Cody McNeely (Salisbury, N.C.) produced a time of 27:57.0 while first-year Bobcats Shawn Graves notched a time of 27:58 and his brother, Lane Graves (Goshen, Ind.) ran at a pace of 28:16.3.

Campbell's Lawrence Kipkoech claimed the individual victory by a hair with a time of 23:32.3. Campbell proceeded to win the team title with 59 points.

The men's squad finished fifth among the nine Conference Carolinas that participated.

Coach Ley Fletcher's squad will enjoy a 14-day break before running in the Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships Friday, Oct. 23 in Concord, N.C.
