CONCORD, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae men's cross country team finished fourth while the women grabbed ninth at the Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships at Frank Liske Park Friday afternoon in Concord, N.C.
The men's team bested North Greenville by two points while staving off Barton by nine. LMC improved four positions since last season after finishing eighth in team points at the championship.
Freshman Austin Thompson (Cleveland, Ga.) missed all-conference accolades by two positions after finishing a team-high 17th with a time of 28:19.5.
Shawn Graves (Goshen, Ind.) completed the 4.97 mile trek in 29:41.1.
Mount Olive cruised to the team championship after claiming the top-six spots in the race while Eugenio Gil paced all contenders with a time of 26:06.0.
King (Tenn.) and Limestone rounded out the top-three. Belmont Abbey, Pfeiffer and Erskine finished seventh through ninth.
Sophomore Alexandria Flint (Blue Bell, Pa.) paced LMC's women's squad with a mark of 21:14.3, which landed her in 17th.
Freshman Kristen Mitchell (Cleveland, Ga.) and sophomore Makayla Estep (Moravian Falls, N.C.) turned in times of 23:20.8 and 23:22.2, respectively.
The race covered 3.11 miles while Ashly Sutherland of Converse took home the individual title with a time of 18:46.3
Mount Olive claimed the team title with 53 points while Limestone and Belmont Abbey rounded out the top-three.
The men's team earned a position in the Southeast Regionals and will travel to Wingate, N.C. on Sat. Nov. 7.
