Thompson, S. Graves Finish in Top 5 at Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational

HICKORY, N.C. --- Four Lees-McRae men's cross country runners finished in the top seven while participating at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational Friday evening in Hickory, N.C.

Sophomore Austin Thompson (Cleveland, Ga.) shined while finishing second in 27:38.84 and teammate Shawn Graves (Goshen, Ind.) placed fourth after turning in a time of 28:02.23.

Senior Cody McNeely (Salisbury, N.C.) swiped sixth with a time of 29:03.44 and sophomore Lane Graves (Goshen, Ind.) was on his heels in seventh.

Freshman Joshua Hall (Ferguson, N.C.) turned in his first top-10 collegiate performance with a time of 30:23.23.

Tyler Pauley (Independence, Va.) and Benjamin Wilson (Salisbury, N.C.) followed suit while finishing 11th and 12th, respectively.

The team finished second with 29 points while Lenoir-Rhyne eked out the overall win with 26 points.

LR's Jacob Black won the individual title with a time of 27:10.61.

On the women's side, sophomore Jordyn Halvorsen (Moravian Falls, N.C.) claimed ninth with a time of 22:35.86.

Junior Jamie Colon (Acworth, Ga.) and sophomore Kaitlyn Gearing (Sautee, Ga.) finished 11th and 12th, respectively, with times of 22:57.03 and 23:11.59.

The Bobcats finished third as a team while LR won with 28 points.

Coach Ley Fletcher's teams will return to action Saturday, Oct. 1 when they participate at the UNCA X Country Challenge in Asheville, N.C.
