NEW ORLEANS, La. – Sophomore Austin Thompson and the Lees-McRae College men's cross country program were honored recently with academic honors from the USTFCCCA. Thompson was named to the All-Academic squad, while the men's cross country squad was one of 115 men's programs to earn All-Academic Team honors.
"It is very rewarding to coach a team that puts the same effort into their studies as it does athletically," said LMC Head Coach Ley Fletcher. "To achieve this award you must have talent athletically and academically. Thse awards represent the hard work these guys have continued to put in all year. I am very proud of their efforts.'
The individual All-Academic honor was awarded to those athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and finished among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at his or her regional championships and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.
Teams must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and must have scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet to qualify for All-Academic awards.
