HIGH POINT, N.C. – Lees-McRae College's Austin Thompson was named the Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week Tuesday morning by the league office. Thompson is the first Bobcat to receive this honor since October 9, 2013 when Tyler Dunn earned the accolade.
Thompson paced all of LMC's cross country runners last Saturday at the Mountain Sea Duals in Boone, N.C. Thompson, who finished 25th overall, ran a time of 26:58.48. His time Saturday was the 19th-fastest time in program history, and it marks the fifth time that Thompson has logged a top-20 time in program history during his career as a Bobcat.
"Austin had a great race on Saturday," said LMC Head Coach Ley Fletcher. "He was able to place in the top 25 of a mostly NCAA Division I race and run one of the best 20 times ever run at LMC on a very tough course. He has become a great leader for our team and works very hard to improve each week. I look forward as the season progresses that he will have more great performances."
Thompson and the rest of the Bobcats will return to action Saturday when they compete at the Bulldog Stampede in Wingate, N.C.
