Cross Country set to compete in the Bulldog Stampede Saturday morning

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cross country teams will travel to Wingate, N.C. Saturday to compete in the seventh annual Wingate University Bulldog Stampede. The women's 6K race will begin at 9 a.m. with the men's 10K race will follow at 9:45 a.m.

Lees-McRae has competed in a pair of events so far this fall and both have been in Boone, N.C. In their first competition on September 1, the men's team placed ninth out of 12 squads competing, while the women's team finished 12th out of 12. The Bobcats followed that performance up with an eighth place finish for the men's squad and a ninth place nod for the women's team out of nine teams competing last weekend.

Leading the Bobcats so far in 2017 has been junior Austin Thompson. Thompson became the first Bobcat runner to capture the Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week honor since 2013 earlier this week. Thompson received the award after running the 19th-fastest time in program history with a mark of 26:58.48.
