HIGH POINT, N.C. – Lees-McRae College's Austin Thompson was named the Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week the league office announced Tuesday morning. It marked the second time that Thompson has earned this honor during his career as a Bobcat.
"Austin has been a very consistent runner for our team since his freshman year," said LMC Head Coach Ley Fletcher. "He always seems to have a good day no matter the course or conditions. I expect Austin to keep improving and hopefully make the All-Conference and All-Region teams by the end of the year. It is a great honor for Austin to receive this award, and it continues to show how well he has represented cross country program throughout his career."
Thompson paced Lees-McRae at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational last Thursday. The Cleveland, Georgia native posted a time of 26:35.66, which not only marked his best time of 2018 but also his second-best time of his career. Additionally, Thompson's time Thursday is the 10th-best time in the history of LMC men's cross country. With this newest time, Thompson now owns six of the top 20 times in the program's history.
Thompson and the rest of the Bobcats will race again this Friday when they compete at the UNC Asheville Invitational in Swannanoa, N.C.
