NEWTON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cross country programs closed out their regular seasons on a high note Friday at the Lenoir-Rhyne Classic as the Bobcats totaled five top 15 finishes on the day. The women's team finished fourth among the six team field, while the men's squad was third among five institutions.
Men's Recap – Three of the top 15 finishes Friday for Lees-McRae came from the men's team. Austin Thompson led the way finishing 10th with a time of 26:37.65. Anton Ledell (26:42.75) and Tristin Bertie (26:46.54) were not far behind finishing 12th and 14th, respectively. Additionally, Ledell's time was a new personal-best for the freshman from Stockholm, Sweden.
As a team, the Bobcats edged out Mars Hill and Johnson C. Smith but finished behind host Lenoir-Rhyne and Tusculum.
Women's Recap – The women's race Friday was 1k more than what is normal and the Bobcats fared relatively well placing three runners among the top 20. Senior Jordyn Halvorsen posted the top finish (8th – 25:13.67) followed by Brianne Heard (11th – 25:42.37) and Sarah Bowman (20th – 27:56.57).
Lees-McRae finished above league foe Converse and Johnson C. Smith on the day but were behind Mars Hill, Tusculum and Lenoir-Rhyne in the final team standings for the race.
Next Up – The next races for the Bobcats will be on November 3 when they compete at the Conference Carolinas Carolinas Championships. Both races will be held on the campus of Mount Olive.
