BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cross country teams will head to Spartanburg, S.C. on Friday to compete in the Eye Opener Invitational. The women's race will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the men's race following shortly afterwards.
About the Field – The Bobcats will be one of just five other Division II institutions in the field for Friday's races. Lees-McRae will be competing against USC Upstate, Charleston Southern, Cleveland Community College, East Tennessee State, Furman, Lander, Limestone, Mercer, Montreat, North Greenville, USC Aiken, UNC Pembroke, UNC Asheville, Walters State Community College and Wofford.
About the women's team – The top runners so far this season from the women's team has been its newest members. In the team's first race, freshman Deanna Betzer paced all Bobcats with a time of 21:27.25 finishing eighth. Overall, seven Bobcats made their collegiate debut at the season-opening race last weekend.
About the men's team – The men's team posted a solid showing in its first race of the season as well. Overall, three runners finished in the top 10 in a 23-person race. Tristin Bertie finished fifth with a time of 27:09.25, while his teammates Joshua Hall (7th – 27:24.81) and Andrew Ybarra (9th – 27:41.77) not far behind. For his run, Bertie was named the Conference Carolinas Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Monday.
