BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cross country programs will be back in action on Friday when they head to Charlotte to compete in the Royals Challenge. The women's race will kick off at 4:30 p.m. with the men's race to follow at approximately 5:20 p.m.
About the races – Both races will take place at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. The Bobcats will be joined in the Queen City by over 100 teams across all three divisions of the NCAA. The races will be live streamed and will have live results. Both links can be found by following this LINK. These races will be the final ones for Lees-McRae before the teams compete at the Conference Carolinas Championships on October 26.
Women's Preview – Looking forward to the women's race on Friday, the Bobcats will look to build upon their stellar history in Charlotte. With the exception of the freshmen, all of Lees-McRae's returning runners have posted their fastest career times at a race in Charlotte. A runner to watch for the team on Friday is freshman Deanna Betzer, who has run the fastest time of any Bobcat this fall with a mark of 20:35.9.
Men's Preview – The men's team will look to gain momentum on Friday as mentioned earlier this is its final race before the conference championship race. The Bobcats have finished second at the league's showcase event for three straight seasons. A runner to watch for Lees-McRae is Tristin Bertie, who is a two-time Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week in 2019 and has posted the fastest time of any Bobcat (26:50).
