The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats softball team opened up the 2007 season splitting a pair of games at Claflin University this past weekend. The Lady Bobcats thrashed host Claflin 10-2 before falling 5-3 to Brewton Parker College.
Freshman Amanda Dodson made her collegiate debut on the mound for the Lady Bobcats, striking out 11 batters picking up the win. Dodson, (pictured top left), also turned in a solid performance at the plate going 2 for 3 with a homerun, scoring two runs while picking up four RBI. Last season's CVAC Batting Champion Dakota Beck went 3 for 4 for the Lady Bobcats scoring three runs and two RBI. Emma Parrish' triple sealed the win for the Lady Bobcats driving in three runs.
The Lady Bobcats continued with the hot bat in the second game, taking the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Brewton Parker would respond with some offense of their own, tying things up in the bottom of the inning before taking the lead with two runs in the second. All three runs scored were unearned against Lady Bobcats freshman pitcher Nicole Baxter. In the top of the fourth, the Lady Bobcats managed to knot the score at three but could not generate anymore offence. Down two runs, in both the fifth and sixth innings the Lady Bobcats found themselves with a runner on second base, but unfortunately could not tie things up. Salle Horner led the way in game two going 3 for 4 from the plate. Lauren Gisler relieved Baxter in the fourth, allowing one earned run in three innings of work.
Lees-McRae will head to Milligan College next weekend for a doubleheader. Games are slated to get started at 2:00pm and 4:00pm respectively.
