The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats softball team returned to the field over the weekend after splitting their first weekend of games, when they traveled to Tusculum College to take on the Pioneers. The home side would prevail, sweeping the Lady Bobcats in two games, 6-2 and 7-6.
In game one, Lauren Gisler got the start on the mound for the Lady Bobcats but was unable to figure the Pioneer hitters, giving up five hits in two innings of work. Nicole Baxter pitched four shutout innings in relief with two strikeouts. Sara Travis paced the Lady Bobcats with two hits while four others added one a piece.
In game two, the Lady Bobcats offence came to life, however the Pioneers were equal to the task. Each team picked up twelve hits, but it was the home side Pioneers who made good with the one run win. Amanda Dodson pitched well for the Lady Bobcats, striking out six. Dodson also contributed at the plate scoring two runs and adding a pair of hits. Salle Horner also scored a pair of runs for the visitors while Dakota Beck and Melody Williams rounded out the Lees-McRae scoring. Paula Fryer, (pictured top left), picked up a game high three hits for the Lady Bobcats.
Lees-McRae will return to action Monday afternoon when they
travel to Montreat College for a doubleheader. Games are slated
for 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
