The Lees-McRae College softball team swept King College 8-0 and 9-6 in non conference action Tuesday evening. The Lady Bobcats improve their record to 3-9.
Captain Salle' Horner, (pictured top left), went 5 for 8 in the two games with a single, a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs to tally up 7 RBIs. Freshman pitcher Amanda Dodson got the first game shutout allowing three hits, three walks with eight strikeouts. Game one was as offensive balance for the Lady Bobcats, scoring runs in all but two innings. Keri Austin also chipped in offensively with a pair of hits and a sacrifice bunt.
Another freshman took the mound for the Lady Bobcats in game two, as Nicole Baxter went 5.2 innings allowing four runs and a handful of walks while striking out four. Lauren Gisler came in to pitch relief allowing two runs. Gisler did not give up any walks while picking up the save and also contributed offensively with 2 RBIs in the doubleheader.
Game two provided a little drama when Gisler took over. With the Lady Bobcats leading by one, 5-4, in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Bobcats responded with a four run seventh inning to gain the insurance heading into the bottom of the inning. King would add a pair to cut the deficit to three and placed runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. After a beautiful diving catch off a line drive, Austin quickly threw out a King runner who was unable to get back to second base in time on the hit and run play.
Both Dakota Beck and Megan Davis went three for four in game two to lead the Lady Bobcats attack.
"This was a total team effort" said Head Coach Julie Kennedy. "Everyone contributed in some way or another to make it happen."
The Bobcats game for St. Andrews Presbyterian College this
Sunday has been moved up one day to Saturday, February 24th due to

Virginia Athletic Conference schedule.
