Alexander Signs National Letter of Intent

Banner Elk, NC--Lees-McRae women's softball coach Julie Kennedy is proud to announce the addition of pitcher Katie Alexander of Hampton, Va. to the Lady Bobcats squad. The Kecoughtan High School senior has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball with Lees-McRae College where she will major in journalism.

"Katie is an all-around player who will help out on the mound as well as give us an offensive boost," commented Coach Kennedy on her newest recruit. "I am looking forward to having Katie here next year and excited about all that she brings on and off the field," she added.

While at Kecoughtan, Alexander has accumulated 526 strikeouts (school record), a career batting average thus far of .418, and has been named Honorable Mention Pitcher and Second Team Pitcher in the Peninsula District. She has also been co-captain and captain of the varsity team for three years. Not only has Alexander excelled on the field, but she is an excellent student currently ranked in the top 15% of her class with a GPA of 3.67. She is also a National Honor Society member and Quill & Scroll Honor Society member. Alexander is the editor-in-chief of Kecoughtan's Tribal Tales Newspaper and was a Girls' State Delegate at the 2007 Virginia Girls' State at Longwood College. Away from school, Alexander is involved with her youth group at Fox Hill Road Baptist Church.

Katie Alexander is the daughter of Phil and Ellen Alexander. She has an older sister Kara and an older brother Zachary who also played softball/baseball at Kecoughtan High School. Katie would like to thank all of her coaches (past & present), trainers and teachers that have helped her achieve her success.
