TITUSVILLE, FLA. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's softball team went 4-0 in the Cocoa Expo Tournament to extend their winning streak to seven games.
In the tournament, junior Amanda Dodson led the Bobcats with a
.692 batting average. Dodson had a team high seven RBIs and 18
total bases including two doubles, two triples and a home run. She
also sported a .733 on base percentage and a 1.385 slugging
percentage. Her performance in the tournament secured her
Conference Carolinas Player of the Week Award.
Veronica Ollier chipped in with an impressive .467 hitting percentage with two doubles and nine total bases. She was also successful in all three of her stolen base attempts.
As a team, Lees-McRae compiled a .315 team batting average.
In the circle, Magen West threw a complete game shutout allowing only three hits and recording 11 strikeouts. Dodson earned a win in seven innings of work giving up just two hits and only one earned run.
Katie Alexander anchored the Lady Bobcats with two wins in 12 innings of work. She allowed 11 hits and recorded nine strikeouts.
The trio held opposing hitters to a .172 batting average.
Another notable performer, Nicole Baxter, hit a two-run homerun against Dakota Wesleyan to secure a 4-1 win a day after her 21st birthday.
"We thank God for giving us the desire to play to the best of our abilities this weekend," head coach Julie Kennedy said. "Our biggest strength was and still is our team chemistry. We are playing very unselfishly. Everyone in the dugout and on the field is doing her part, and our main goal leading into this week is consistency."
