BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University Lady Falcons (21-11, 8-4) swept the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats (16-14, 4-6) in a Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader, 10-0 and 2-1, Wednesday afternoon.
The first game remained scoreless until Pfeiffer's Ranzy York blasted a two-run homer over the left center field fence to make it 2-0 in the top of the fourth.
Pfeiffer added another two runs in the fifth inning on one hit and a Bobcat error to make it 4-0. The highlight of the inning was RBI double by Martina Bullard.
Pfeiffer used two homeruns, two singles and a double to score six unearned runs in the sixth inning to push the game to 10-0.
Amanda Dodson took the loss for Lees-McRae. In four innings of work, she surrendered only three hits and two runs.
York earned the win for Pfeiffer in the circle going the complete game and allowing only four hits. She faced 21 batters, which is only three over the minimum for a six-inning game.
Veronica Ollier, Anna Carter, Nicole Baxter and Meagan Knowles were the only Lady Bobcats to collect hits.
York led the Lady Falcons by going 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI. Bullard had three hits in four plate appearances with two runs scored and two RBI.
In game two, York again put the Lady Falcons on the scoreboard first with a solo blast to right center to give Pfeiffer a 1-0 lead.
But, the Lees-McRae answered and tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ashley Benfield led off the inning with a single and scored when Paula Fryar's single got through the leftfielder.
In the top of the eighth inning and the international tiebreak rule in effect, Bullard delivered the go ahead run on a single to right that scored Kylee Nichols, who was placed at second to begin the inning.
Magen West was saddled with the loss for Lees-McRae. West worked eight solid innings allowing seven hits and striking out four.
Allison Braswell earned the win for Pfeiffer in eight innings of work. She scattered five hits during the game.
Fryar, who was 2-for-4, led the Lady Bobcats offensively.
York and Bullard, again, led Pfeiffer by going 2-for-4 with an RBI apiece.
Lees-McRae will host Barton College Saturday, April 4th at 1:30 p.m. for their next conference doubleheader.
