BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats dropped a Conference Carolinas doubleheader, 3-2 and 13-9, to the visiting Erskine College Flying Fleet Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Lady Bobcats fall to 5-9 in the conference and 12-28 overall, while Erskine improves to 11-5 in conference and 19-20-1 overall.
In game one, Erskine struck first in the when Kelly Davis and Kayla Vinson both reached base to start the game on bunts. After a sacrifice bunt, Courtney Davis reached on a field choice, but Kelley Davis was thrown out at the plate. However, with Vinson on third and Courtney Davis on first, Davis took off for second allowing Vinson to score on a throwing error back to plate to give the Flying Fleet a 1-0 lead.
Lees-McRae would tie the game in the second when Paula Fryar scored when on a botched first and third play on Erskine when Anna Carter took off for second.
Three innings later, The Lady Bobcats to a 2-1 lead when Anna Carter and pinch runner Ashley Benfield scored on an Erskine error, however in the top of the sixth after a two out walk to Lindsay LaPrad, Courtney Davis sent a two-run homer over the left field fence the give Erskine the 3-2 win.
Magen West took the loss in the circle for the Lady Bobcats in seven innings of work. Heather Richey earned the win for Erskine with a complete-game four hitter. Richey also recorded seven strikeouts.
Kim Coley led the Lady Bobcats offensively with two hits.
Courtney Davis was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI for the Flying Fleet.
Game two quickly turned away from the pitching duel game one was. Erskine put up seven runs in the first two innings to take a 7-0 lead on eight hits.
The Bobcats would push three total runs across in the bottom of the second and third innings with six hits. The Bobcats would strand six runners in the two innings.
Erskine took the lead to 11-3 with four more runs in the fourth inning, but the Bobcats notched one in the bottom of the fifth then up five runs to cut the lead to 11-9.
However, Erskine added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
The two teams pounded out 31 hits.
Bryce Campbell took the loss for Lees-McRae, while Krissy Kendrick picked up the win for Erskine.
Melanie Henderson had four hits in four plate appearances and scored three runs for the Fleet. Kelly Davis and Larissa Shannon were both 3-for-4. Courtney Davis and Shannon had four RBI.
For the Lady Bobcats, Carter was 3-for-4 and Coley, Nicole Baxter and Benfield had two RBI.
