KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- The Concordia University, St. Paul softball team scored five runs in the first two frames en route to an 8-0 six-inning win over Lees-McRae College on the final day of the Rebel Spring Games.
Concordia (14-4) scratched out eight runs on 15 hits while holding the Bobcats (11-14) to a trio of base knocks. Bekah Roth (Shoreview, Minn.) paced the Golden Bears with a 3-for-4 day, while Katie Anderson (Mendota Heights, Minn.), Calli Brennan (Mendota Heights, Minn.), Brynn Larsen (Oconto Falls, Wis.), and Sami Mattson (Esko, Minn.) each tallied two hits. Cassye McMahon (Rescue, Calif.) went the distance in the circle, scattering three hits across six innings and recording two strikeouts.
Kayla Blackburn (Millers Creek, N.C.) laced a double for the Bobcats, as Paige Coleman (Thomasville, N.C.) and Anna Carter (Hurdle Mills, N.C.) each tallied a hit. Magen West (Whitney, Texas) made the start for Lees-McRae, lasting three innings. Hollie Crickenberger (Boydton, Va.) tossed the final two frames, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out two.
Concordia took off running in the first, loading the bases with no outs following two singles and walk before plating the game's first run on a Mattson RBI single. The Golden Bears doubled the advantage on a run-scoring single by Roth before Katie Feuerbach (Iowa City, Iowa) drove in the third tally of the inning with an RBI base knock. Concordia then pushed the lead to 5-0 on a two-run single by Brennan in the second.
Lees-McRae's best scoring chance came in the fourth, when Jessica Smith (Gastonia, N.C.) drew a walk and advanced to third on Coleman's single to left center before the Golden Bears quelled the rally. Concordia capped the day's scoring with a run in the fourth and two in the sixth, invoking the eight-run-rule on a Roth RBI single after Mattson plated Larsen with a double to right.
Lees-McRae returns to the diamond on Tuesday when the Bobcats travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
