HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College junior Kim Coley (Marion, N.C.) has been named the Conference Carolinas softball Player of the Week after leading the Bobcats to an even 5-5 record at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., announced league officials Tuesday.
The junior outfielder is the second Bobcat to earn conference player of the week honors this season, joining fellow junior Lindsey Huntsinger (Asheville, N.C.), who earned the award in each of the first two weeks of the campaign. Coley posted a .379 batting average for the week, tallying seven runs scored, three RBI, and five stolen bases in LMC's 10-game stretch at the Rebel Games.
Coley opened the week on a tear, notching eight base knocks in her first 15 at-bats, including six straight hits against Northwood, Sciences in Philadelphia, and Holy Family. The Marion, N.C. native posted her best performance of the week against Northwood, going 3-for-3 to notch her second of three multi-hit games for the week. She followed that by driving in the go-ahead run against Sciences. For the season, Coley ranks third on the team in batting average (.352), fourth in runs scored (14), and fourth in RBI (13).
Lees-McRae returns to the diamond on Wednesday when the Bobcats travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba College in a non-conference doubleheader, which was rescheduled from Tuesday due to the threat of inclement weather. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
