RANDLEMAN, N.C. —Taylor Billings, a senior at Randleman High School, signed to play softball at Lees McRae College in Banner Elk. She has received academic and athletic scholarships and plans to study to be a nurse practitioner.
"We are very proud of our daughter," said parents Eddie and Kris Billings. "We are excited that Taylor will be attending her college of choice and playing softball."
Billings has been interested in attending Lees McRae since her freshman year when she played a scrimmage game with her travel team, the Knockouts, against the college softball team. She has played with the Knockouts for the past four years and been a member of the tennis, swim, softball and shooting/archery teams at Randleman High School.
"Taylor has left her mark of the Randleman softball program as an athlete, a student and a leader," said Coach Willie Duvall. "As a pitcher she is rock on the mound and never waivers no matter what the situation. She always wants the ball in her hand, wanting to lead her team in the best way she possibly can."
In 2012 Taylor earned honors of 1st Team All-Conference (PAC-6), 1st Team All-District and 1st Team All-State. She is a N.C. Lifetime Sportsman.
She was also the first player in Randleman High history to make the state finals in women's tennis, Duvall added.
