Strong Pitching Baffles Bobcats

ATHENS, W. Va. --- The Lees-McRae softball team ran into some tough pitching while dropping a doubleheader at Concord, 6-0 and 1-0, Wednesday afternoon at Concord Softball Field in Athens, W. Va.

The Mountain Lions (16-6) earned their six wins in their last seven games. The Bobcats (4-22) was blanked in both contests and was able to muster five hits in 14 innings of action.

Game 1 – Concord 6, LMC 0

CU's Kristen Rose jumpstarted the Mountain Lion offense immediately with a leadoff single and stolen base in the bottom of the first. Rose would score on an RBI single from Lacy McDougall.

McDougall and Rose duplicated their first inning success when McDougall hit an RBI double to left before Alyssa Morris connected on an RBI double to make it 3-0 after three innings.

Two RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth and an additional one in the bottom of the fifth concluded the scoring for the opener.

Freshman Taylor Billings (Sophia, N.C.) (2-2) took the loss after allowing five runs in four innings of work. Lori Fulmer (Prosperity, S.C.), Amanda Decker (Apex, N.C.) and Kendall Fowler (Buford, Ga.) recorded a hit for the Bobcats.

Game 2 – Concord 1, LMC 0

Freshman Celeste Sheppard (East Julian, N.C.) (1-10) was the tough luck loser in the second game after allowing the games' lone run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third.

LMC managed two hits while Sheppard allowed eight hits and one earned run.

The Bobcats will play at home for the first time this season tomorrow at 3 & 5 p.m. at LMC Softball Field against Millersville.
