NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Newberry by scores of 9-0 and 6-0. With the losses, LMC moves to 0-4 on the season.
Game 1: Newberry jumped on LMC for three runs in the first inning and added three in the second, one in the fourth and two in the fifth en route to a 9-0 win over the Bobcats in five innings.
Sarah Tucker got the lone hit in the game for Lees-McRae and that was a double. In the circle, Kara Cunningham was tagged with her second loss of the season after working four innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits.
Game 2: In the backend of the doubleheader the Newberry pitching staff held the Bobcat offense to one hit once again on its way to a 6-0 win over Lees-McRae. Noel Cassidy accounted for the base hit for LMC.
Taylor Billings made her first start in the circle this season in game two and took the loss after tossing six innings. Billings allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits to go along with four strikeouts.
Next Up: The Bobcats will round out their first week of action Sunday when it travels to Anderson University for another twin bill. The double dip against the Trojans is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
