WISE, Va. – The Lees-McRae College softball team split a pair of games Sunday afternoon at UVA-Wise in non-conference action. The Bobcats won the first game of the day by a score 2-1 but dropped game two, 7-0. With the results on Sunday, LMC's record stands at 6-10 on the season.
Game 1: Sarah Tucker drove in a run in the top of the first and the Bobcats tacked on another in the sixth to wrap up their victory 2-1 over the Cavaliers. Tucker finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Valerie Hickey also posted a two-hit outing in game one going 2-for-4.
Kara Cunningham picked up her fourth win of the season to improve her record to 4-3. Cunningham pitched all seven innings and allowed just one run on four hits with no walks Sunday. Additionally, Cunningham also picked up a season-high eight strikeouts in the victory.
Game 2: The second game of the day was all UVA-Wise as it went on to win by a score of 7-0. Cavaliers' starting pitcher Taylor Brandts held LMC's offense in check allowing just three hits and one walk in a seven-inning complete game effort.
Tucker, Kirsten Doss and Sarah Stallings accounted for the three hits in game two for LMC. In the circle, Taylor Billings took the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in five-and-two-thirds innings.
Next Up: LMC will return to action next Sunday when it travels to Elizabethton, Tenn. to take on Milligan in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
