ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae College softball team split a doubleheader at Milligan Sunday afternoon. LMC won the first game 14-12, but the Buffaloes took game two by a score of 12-3 in five innings. With the results Sunday, Lees-McRae's record moves to 7-11 on the season.
Game 1: Offense was not in short supply in game one as the Bobcats and Buffaloes combined for 26 runs on 29 hits in the contest. LMC was able to stake itself to early lead with a nine-run third inning to keep Milligan playing from behind for the majority of the game. The Buffaloes score three times in the sixth and seventh, but the large early deficit was too much to overcome.
Eight of the nine members of LMC's starting lineup had at least one hit in the first game, including five multi-hit performances. Kara Cunningham and Sarah Stallings both led LMC with 3-for-4 outings with two RBI. In the circle, Gabrielle Moyer picked up her second win of the season, while Cunningham notched first save of the season in relief.
Game 2: The second game of the day was all Milligan. LMC scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, but the Buffaloes scored 12 times over the next three frames to put the game out of LMC's reach.
Valerie Hickey led all hitters in game two with a 4-for-4 outing at the plate with a run scored and a RBI. Noel Cassidy also posted her second multi-hit game of the afternoon going 2-for-3 with a run.
Charlie Dutton took the loss for the Bobcats in game two after surrendering eight runs (six earned) on six hits in one inning of work. The loss dips Dutton's record to 0-3 on the season.
Next Up: The Bobcats will return to action next Sunday when it travels to Mars Hill for another non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. from Mars Hill, N.C.
