FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Lees-McRae College softball team picked up a pair of wins at Emmanuel (GA) College Sunday afternoon. LMC won game one by a score of 10-5 in nine innings before completing the sweep with a 3-1 win in game two. The victories improve LMC's record to 10-20 on the season. The 10 victories match the team's win total from all of last season.
Game 1: After scoring just two runs in the first seven innings of the first game of the day, Lees-McRae's offense exploded with eight runs in the eighth and ninth innings to finish off the 10-5 victory over the Lions.
Kara Cunningham pitched all nine innings for LMC in the first game. Cunningham struck out nine Lion hitters, which matched a season-high. With the win, Cunningham's record improves to 5-6 on the season.
Game 2: Charlie Dutton put together her best effort of the season in game two as she allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings of work to help the Bobcats complete the sweep of Emmanuel, 3-1. The victory, which was Dutton's eighth career win in the circle for LMC, improves her record to 1-7.
All three of Lees-McRae's runs came in the fifth inning. Both of the hits by Bobcats in the frame brought in runs. Ray got things started with a single to right center, which drove in Valerie Hickey. Merriam tacked on another run with a single of her own later in the fifth.
Next Up: Lees-McRae will make its home debut Tuesday when it hosts Converse. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
