BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team dropped a pair of games to No. 9 Pfeiffer Saturday afternoon at the LMC Softball Field. The Bobcats drop to 12-24 overall and 4-8 with the defeats Saturday.
Game 1 Recap: The first game of the day was ruled in the circle. Both pitching staffs kept the opposing lineups off balance for all seven innings as they allowed just three runs on five hits total. Unfortunately for LMC, the Falcons scored two of the three runs to upend the Bobcats in game one, 2-1.
LMC managed just two hits in the first game of the day. Noel Cassidy had one of these hits and also scored the team's lone run. Chelsea Digregorio accounted for the other LMC hit, while Karly McRary drove in the team's run.
Kara Cunningham took the loss in game one despite allowing just two runs and three hits in the contest. Cunningham's record dips to 6-8 with the loss.
Game 2 Recap: After being held to just three hits in game one, the Falcons broke out the bats in a big way in game two scoring eight runs in the first inning on their way to an 8-3 win over Lees-McRae to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Cunningham, Cassidy, Kirsten Doss and Caitlyn Ray accounted for nine of the team's 11 hits in game two. Cunningham led this group with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. McRary and Digregorio also notched hits in the contest.
For the second straight start, Charlie Dutton did not make it out of the first inning as she allowed five runs on four hits and lasted just one third of an inning. Following the departure of Dutton, Taylor Billings came in for LMC and pitched six-and-two-third innings of scoreless relief.
Next Up: The Bobcats will return to action when they host Southern Wesleyan next Saturday in Banner Elk. Saturday's games will be the team's Senior Day along with their Pink Out games. First pitches are scheduled for 2 & 4 p.m.
